I usually don’t write reviews, but for this company, I felt like I had to. The tactic is they automatically enroll you in an annual subscription after the free trial ends. If they had charged me for a monthly rate, I would’ve been upset but would've let it slide. Instead, they charged me a $153 annual subscription. Worst part is that its not even good at rephrasing and I had to go through another site. Also their customer support is atrocious offering no help so don't bother. Let the bank deal with them. They even have a "Dispute Analyst" role, which says a lot about how many people fall victim to their shady practices and try to fight for refunds. When you request to cancel or ask for a refund, they claim you “used their service” during the free trial to justify rejecting your refund. I only submitted one document during the trial, and they counted that as "using the features," which they then used as an excuse to deny my refund. That’s absolutely ridiculous. Even if you don’t use the service at all after being charged for the annual subscription, they will still reject your refund. This is honestly the first time I’ve encountered a company like this, and it’s laughable how blatantly unethical their policies and practices are. It’s clear they know exactly what they’re doing but playing dumb. They’re banking on people falling into this trap. I also noticed a suspicious pattern in their Trustpilot reviews, its either 1 or 5 star reviews. The ratings are clearly manipulated. Surprisingly, the CEO's father is the director of a gaming company. I hope he teaches his son some basic principles of customer service because this is appalling. I would avoid this company at all costs even if the 1 day free trial seems tempting. Don’t fall victim to their deceitful tactics.

I am extremely disappointed with Phrasly’s unethical business practices. A minor in my household set up an account and used my credit card for what was supposed to be a 24-hour free trial. However, the company has hidden terms that charge your account if you exceed a certain word count within that “free” period. Within an hour of being charged $164.45—an amount that is exorbitant and completely unjustified—I reached out to request a refund. I explained the situation, including the fact that this was a mistake made by a minor and occurred less than an hour after the charge was applied. Despite this, Phrasly refused to issue a refund and essentially told me I had to deal with it. This is unacceptable and feels fraudulent. Their lack of transparency, poor customer service, and unwillingness to make things right demonstrate that this company does not care about its customers. I would strongly caution anyone considering using their services to read every detail carefully—or better yet, avoid them entirely.

Phrasly employs UNETHICAL and DECEPTIVE marketing practices. First of all, the trial defaults to an annual plan and not monthly. It is easy to overlook this as they do not display this as an option like on most sites but as a toggle. Secondly, the trial is garbage as you can only test 550 words - that is only one single page of content and not enough to get sense for how it is actually working. Third, the option to cancel is in very small and light grey font - it actually does not pass accessibility standards with WCAG guidelines. Honestly someone should sue them for this. It's Crazy. Finally, I'll state that when I complained about my accidentally signing up for an annual subscription they refused to switch me over. Again, shady marketing and potentially out of compliance due to lack of accessibility.

This is a definite intentional billing scam. Not just a business with dishonorable business practices. It's an outright fake contract-starting scam business. This is how it works a. You sign up for a trial. The trial requires you to enter your credit card. b. You can try and cancel your trial. You will fail, without knowing it. YBecuase you don't get any confirmation of the cancellation by email, or confirmation of a subscription starting. You can click cancel all you like, there are no notifications. c. You start getting billed at some later date. No refunds. d. Then the gaslighting begins. "You didn't cancel your trial"! Of course, you did, but because Phrasly doesn't send confirmations you can't show that. "You agreed to start a contract at the end of your trial if you didn't cancel."No, I CANCELLED and DIDN'T agree to the starting of a contract. "You used it after the trial." No. I didn't start a contract ever, so I didn't ever do this. You just failed to accept my cancellation and auto-started a contract I had clicked "cancel" on before it started. Phrasly simply refuses to honor trial cancellations. Perhaps they started out to offer a decent service, but somewhere got lost along the way realizing there was more money to be made in scam billing practices. A truly horrible company, running a very definite billing scam.

Dear all, I would advise others to exercise caution when considering this service. I registered to explore it and was unexpectedly charged for an annual subscription without clear notification or my explicit consent. When I reached out to resolve the issue, I did not receive a response. I will now be filing a formal complaint with the relevant government department, as I believe this service engages in practices that may be misleading to consumers.

They charged me over $130 for annual service only one day after signing up for a free trial. They refused to refund me and when I disputed it they cancelled my service. So now they have kept my $130 and provided me no service. Their customer support seemed written by AI itself. They’re a very weird company just stay away.

This company scams you out of your money! I told them a year ago that I did not want the subscription since there is no way to go to their website to cancel it. Only a year later, they charged me again for a subscription that I do not use. They use a cash app, so you cannot report it. Their customer service is rude and unresponsive. I highly do not recommend this website!

Hi Katy, I'm sorry to hear you are having this issue. I have searched our support records, and it appears you have never contacted us previously. Anyone can cancel their plan on our settings page in under 30 seconds. We have several payment methods like PayPal, Card, CashApp, and bank transfer; and it seems that you have chosen to pay with CashApp when you started your subscription. I believe this is a misunderstanding and I urge you to please contact us at [email protected] and we can help you out. Regards, Robert

Solid, trustworthy company. Refunded me instantly when I discovered a fraud charge on my card with them. I don't believe the negative reviews here are accurate since they cater to students which aren't usually the brightest, they seem to be legitimate. Thanks again for the professionalism.

I signed up for a free trial and to be billed monthly after that because I know i didn't need this service for a year. During my free trial i ran out of words and was prompted to upgrade. Seeing as thought i already selected the monthly service i proceeded. They charged me a full year. They have no live chat or phone number, just an email. When i reached out immediately, Mark advised they have a strict no refund policy. It's not as if i was asking to cancel, i explained the situation and asked to be switch to the monthly which is what i signed up for. Don't bother calling this fake number they provided on here. If i could give less that 5 stars i would. I was pleased with thier service until I encountered this issue.
