After a significant increase in my monthly bill to $150 a month I decided to purchase my own modem/router to help reduce the cost of my monthly bill. I had called to notify them of my new modem/router and provided the *** number on the unit in order to set everything up and did so successfully without any significant issues. I had no issues with the internet for approximately a week and then after sending back their equipment via ***** my internet suddenly ceased working. After attempting troubleshooting on my end, I called RCN/Astound to see if there was an outage in the area and to try to get my internet back up and running. I was told that they did not have the *** number for my new modem (which seemed very odd given I had called previously to provide that info and had my internet up and running without any issues for the past week- why did that information suddenly disappear?). I again provided my *** number to try to resolve the issue and after several attempts of them saying everything was good on their end, restarting my modem, computer, trying multiple devices, etc. I was told that they would need to send out a technician to resolve the issue and that it would cost $80 to do so. If I didn't want to pay the $80, instead they could add on an additional service for $5 a month that would cover the cost any time a technician would need to come to my home. At this point, I told them that instead I would just switch internet providers because none of this makes sense for me financially. As soon as I threatened to change internet providers, the internet was suddenly able to be up and running without issues. The whole thing felt like a scam and very dishonest business practices to try to get me to spend additional money now that they will be losing the revenue on the monthly fees for the rental equipment.Astound Broadband powered by RCN

I switched to Astound last year. At that time, they were running an offer wherein new customers would get one month's free ******************** and **** gift card. I was free month would be reflected in my bill and **** gift card will be delivered without any further action from me. I followed up couple of months afterwards when I didn't see anything. Again I was assured that this will be reflected in upcoming billing cycle and **** gift card will be sent separately. Today, I called them again to follow up and now I am being told that they can't do anything about it as billing disputes need to be resolved within 30 days (!!!). ..and they do not keep records of call notes from last year. They even tried to blame me for it as according them " you should have stayed on the top of it". Clearly no ethics and blatant bait and switch tactic.Astound Broadband powered by RCN

My bill sneakily increased from $40.41 to $50.10 and now $67.68. When I asked why, the operator couldn't explain. I signed up last year for a two year plan that said my price wouldn't change. My wifi and equipment rental have both increased substantially. They're so sneaky. I would advise against signing up with them. She couldn't explain to me why this happened and said, "regardless, this is as low as it's getting." You're telling me since signing up a year ago my bill has increased almost $30 - almost doubled - for wifi?!?!?!? Now I'm on hold to speak to someone else... 33 minutes and 22 seconds in. We've been having ongoing issues with our internet service entirely dropping at least four times a day for periods of ten minutes or more since Aug 1. That's doesn't seem like much time out of a day, but it interrupts crucial work meetings, causes loss of design work on website updates, ruins the best parts of streaming movies, and destroys progress in multi-player games----over and over and over again. Work says I need to "do something about how often I drop out of meetings". I now use my mobile hotspot if I want reliability.The only thing that's maybe more infuriating is the consistent helpless response we've gotten from Astound each time we call for support. This same exact issue happened a year and a half ago and was ongoing for OVER THREE MONTHS before it was repaired properly! Instead of believing me and looking at the big picture, each time I call support I start from the beginning where the tech asks me to first reset my modem---and then comes the canned responses from the **** that have no actual problem-solving steps to follow. They sometimes tell me that "there is a reported problem in the area which will be fixed by 5pm" and we have to wait until then to call back. It's just to get us off the phone. Over ten technicians have come to the house (interrupting our work day). Each leave saying they fixed the problem only to find out hours later its not fixed. We've had our equipment (router and modem) completely replaced twice. The only thing that fixed the problem last time was a line technician working somewhere upstream from our house but apparently one customer isn't worth the hassle of doing the proper repairs again.The latest update is noticing our bill actually just INCREASED by $40 a month on Sep 1, despite all of my calls to tech support and the inconvenience dealing with this issue. They honestly DO NOT CARE. How does this business survive? Oh right, people are stuck with them---Astound is the service I am stuck with because I'm a renter.Astound Broadband powered by RCN

We had RCN for internet and TV for nine years. RCNs customer service was abysmal, and I cant believe we waited so long to switch to another provider. After nine years with the same TV remote, it finally stopped working reliably. I had to call three times to request a replacement they kept giving me the run-around and telling me I had to fill out a form that they would send me (but never did). I finally received a remote and then they charged me $15 even though they initially said they would waive that fee when I pointed out that I had been a customer for nine years.Last month they increased our bill by $100. I called to ask if they had any promotions they could apply and they said no. I chatted a few days later to check again, but they said their costs had increased and there was nothing they could do. So we switched to another provider. So far, so good. When I called to disconnect RCN after our new service was activated, they told me they cant disconnect my account for ten days and that I would be charged until the account was disconnected. This is, of course, unreasonable, so I did a quick calculation of what I expected to owe based on the actual disconnect date and paid that amount. Today I received a final bill from RCN showing a lower amount due for the final bill, so apparently they did not wind up charging for the ten days as they said they would. I chatted and requested a refund of my overpayment, but they said they cant issue a refund unless the amount is over $100. Who ever heard of a company that wont refund an overpayment? This company is horrible!To anyone who is considering using RCN as their provider please keep in mind that they absolutely do not make customer service a priority.Astound Broadband powered by RCN

I contacted this company today as my monthly bill suddenly went up by $10 for no apparent reason, just to learn that they sent an advise in the last page of previous month bill alerting that price would increase. I expressed my disappointment, thanked the operator politely, and ended the chat. 5 minutes later my internet connection went down. What a COINCIDENCE. I talked to Astound Broadband Corporate September 20th 2023 about all the problems I have had for 8 months with our cable 39 service calls 9 different techs. I talked to a lady from corporate name ***** *********, told her what was going on she had another lady call me named ***** She read all the notes and ask me what can we do to make you happy. So we worked out a deal where I would only pay $155.13 per month for 2 years. I agreed to that. The last 3 months I have received a bill for $ ****** per month.When I call the help line they tell me there is nothing they can do . The help line people tells me they can't get ahold of corporate, but they have in the past. They have broken a verbal contract.
