      Ordered a book through AbeBooks.com. I ordered a "new hardcover" and they sent a paperback. Normally not a big deal, but I had shopped around extensively to find a hardcover copy and paid substantially more than other sellers because I anticipated heavy use with lots of schlepping around in my bag. I don't know if the paperback they sent started out in poor condition or was damaged in transit in their paper-thin wrapping, but what I received was a seriously damaged paperback (the likes of which were available online for far less than I had paid). I reached out to ask if they could send the new hardcover version that I'd ordered. It took two days to get a bot-like response wherein they stated in a one-liner that the book I ordered is not available in hardcover (as in, it doesn't exist). Three emails later, they said that if I wanted a refund, I should mail the book back to them at my own expense. I told them that I am more than willing to mail it back to them if they provide a return label, but that I'm not keen to piss away even more money on this increasingly losing proposition. I'm not a vindictive person, but I thought it would be worth logging the experience here in case it can spare someone else the grief and I see that I'm not the first to be caught up in their false advertising scheme.

      After you place the order, expect zero help from them. The vendors do not respond to messages and, while AbeBooks claims they will help if vendors do not respond, they simply respond by repeating instructions found on the website and then do not respond if you respond by expressing that they still haven't solved your issue. **** ******* ** * ****
