We hired J.B. Tree Service (Jim Brinson) to take down an oak tree that was leaning at about a 40 degree angle towards our house after Hurricane Helene hit Augusta, GA on 9/27/24. We agreed on a price of $3,500.00 total with him stating he would return the next morning (9/28/24) to start the job with completion on Sunday (9/29/24). He asked how much we were willing to pay up front so he could "know we were serious". We offered a 40% deposit if he could indeed complete the work as promised. We sent the deposit to his wife (Sandra), per his request via *****. He worked for just under 2 hours on Saturday 9/28/24 and took a few limbs off the tree and hasn't returned since. He left equipment (rope and a pole) at our house. Over the course of the following week, we have multiple texts (with read receipts) and phone calls promising to return "today" or "tomorrow" and that we are a "priority" with no show and no further work from him. He even assured us the tree was "standing straighter now" since he took some weight off it - it most certainly was not. We finally had to hire another tree service to take the tree down in attempt to protect our home. We requested half of our deposit back ($750) as we felt that he did not complete 40% of the job and the remaining $750 was generous payment for the less than 2 hours that he worked on the tree. He and his wife have ignored our texts and phone calls. After the fact, I discovered there are multiple negative reviews on ****** and ******* **** detailing this same pattern of conducting business.
