I was falsely accused of inappropriate behavior at the downtown branch on August 19, 2022. The worker told me to collect my things and leave, in front of others instead of privately. He didn't care about my statement that it wasn't true. After I left, I was called by the director and told that the accusation was fabricated. This was very embarrassing and humiliating and could have ruined my reputation. It's upsetting to me that anyone can make a statement like that, and the accused is guilty until proven innocent. There should be a policy in place where investigation takes place before someone is confronted. People who fabricate stories like this should lose their memberships. If you join the Y, please be aware that anyone who doesn't like the look of you can make up a story and get you thrown out.

Thank you for reaching out about the incident that happened at the Downtown YMCA on August 19th. Unfortunately, we had a member stand by his comments that there was inappropriate behavior and he was uncomfortable about going in the sauna and men's fitness center. When we were informed of what happened, we called you to discuss the situation and to make sure it doesn't happen again. We wanted to make sure we heard both sides of the story and not just the accuser, which is why we called you. I do apologize for our staff publicly addressing the situation with you rather than privately and they have all been educated on the proper ways to deal with these type of situations going forward.

I also stand by my comments. I already heard from the director, on the 19th, that the account was fabricated. Towels or clothing is not required in the fitness center sauna or steam room. Speaking for myself, after I've been in the sauna for only 5 minutes, all my blood is at the skin surface, trying to cool myself. I think this individual is just not comfortable with nudity.
