On August 15th around 4pm, a tow truck came to my residence to take my car for repossession. The man towing my car claimed to be from Absolute Recovery. He asked me if I wanted any personal items out of the vehicle before he took my car. I only grabbed the car registration and personal documents out of my vehicle because I knew I would be able to pay for the car by the end of the month. My friend was also present for this conversation as well as when I took the documents out of the vehicle. The tower told me to give him my car key so that " I wouldn't be charged a fee." I gave him my spare key. The tower also let me know my car would be in *********, **. I was told by my loan company, Flagship Credit, that I had until September 4th to pay the balance or my car would be put on auction. On August 27th, I paid the balance owed to Flagship Credit and was told by them where I would be able to pick up my car, it was not ********* but ***********. When I arrived to *********** and picked up my car, I noticed it was completely empty. My tag was also gone. *****, who helped me with the procedure told me to call Flagship Credit and get the information from them for the ************ to file a claim. I was told that Absolute Recovery had my personal items and I had to make an appointment. I made an appointment for 9/3/24. 15 minutes before my appointment, Absolute Recovery calls me to tell me that the car had no items in it when it arrived. I was told on the phonee when I made the appointment that my items were at Absolute Recovery in *********. This is false. Items left in the car include : my daughter's dolls, clothing and personal items (est. value of $100), beach tent (est. value of $200), beach blankets (est. value of $30), designer sunglasses ***************** est. value of $400, shoes; pair of **** sneakers and Birkenstocks (est. value of $250), two rosaries from my grandmother that hold extreme sentimental value and the tag to my car that was displayed on the dash.

      Business Response

      Date: 09/03/2024

At the time of pick up, as you stated, you were given the opportunity to gather any items from the car you wanted. You gathered items and left the rest in the car. When you have the opportunity to remove any property you wanted but chose to leave things behind, it is assumed that the items left were unwanted. We stored the vehicle on our lot for 8 days prior it being moved to auction, which occurred on 8/22/24. When the transporter came to move it we released the car with the key provided and any other items since they were assumed to be unwanted. At any time during the 8 days we stored it you could have called or made an appointment to come gather items from the car if you decided you wanted them after not taking them out at the time of recovery. The car had a paper temporary tag displayed and any items left inside were assumed to be unwanted, especially considering there were what looked like some papers, a few coins in the cupholder, and some misc old kids toys in the back. We cannot be held responsible for property you were given the chance to take, but chose not to.
