    On January 13, 2023, I dropped off my HP Envy x360 laptop to File Savers at ************************************************** for data recovery services. The company said it was located "inside ***********************," as also indicated on its website. The technician advised that he would email a confirmation of receipt (which I received later that day), perform the free diagnosis, "onsite," and contact me on Monday, January 16, with the status and cost for the data recovery service. When I did not hear back, I email the company for an update. It did not response. I phoned the company at ************ and spoke with "****" who said that the Tech at Genius/File Savers should have given me an agreement/quote to complete to move forward and that he would send it via email. I received an email from "*************************" with a link to a quote/agreement for approximately $999 to $2,400, which was an extremely broad range. It turned out that the form was one I had completed for a company called "SalvageData," which service I declined because it sends emails from dummy individuals who do not exist. For a lack of trust in this company, I picked up my laptop on Friday, January 20, realizing it is possibly involved in scamming customers. The process is evident of some sort of deceptive practices. In fact, on one occasion when I called "****," he answered unassured to that name. It is very sad because data recovery is a sensitive industry that deals with extremely sensitive personal and business data.
