Morgan State University is billing me $10,000 for a semester I did not attend. Before the semester started, I informed them that I would be joining the ******* and asked them to hold my classes while I would be away for combat training. I have emails dating back to June 6, 2024, before the semester started in August, expressing this. I assumed they had dropped my classes, and I planned to continue my education upon my return. I have never attended any of these classes or set foot on campus. Instead of dropping them, they continued to charge me without my knowledge. They are now saying that I have to pay because of policy. How can they charge me for a semester I was absent from? I never received a phone call. They continued to act like I was still enrolled, even grading assignments while I was away training. My official active duty date is 10/21/2024. I tried to reach out to deans and other staff members, but I have not heard anything back, and it has been more than 48 hours. I keep getting texts and emails about how I have an obligation. I thought it was a bot, but it's a personal number. I also have an IEP that they haven't respected or acknowledged.Customer Answer

Complaint: 22380175I want to bring to your attention that Morgan State University has not dropped the charges on my account, despite their assurance that they had resolved the issue. They have charged me a new bill of $607 for student health insurance without my consent, even though I am not attended any classes on campus or stepped foot on the property. I have provided evidence to support my claim, including the fact that they were supposed to postpone my classes while I completed military training with the Army. I spoke with a representative and recorded the conversation in which the representative confirmed that my billing account had a negative balance. However, upon checking my account, I found the charge and called again. The representative acknowledged that I should not be charged since I have never been on campus. I already have health insurance, including medical coverage as an Army recruit. They also charged me for books but later dropped that charge on my account. I am not satisfied with their response, and they have not provided me with an official copy of my withdrawal form from the university, which I assume is due to the charges on my account.

Morgan State university incorrectly made my daughter, ******* ******** an offer as in state student. Her father and I made a decision for her to attend MSU based on the amount we thought the school cost, which is all we can afford. Some errors were made, and we had tried numerous times to contact them during the 2023 fall semester and nobody could help us understand why the cost was so high. We thought there was a double charge, where in actuality they were charging as out of state. Their lack of communication led us to not being able to drop out of school because they didn't let us know until the second semester, after I had tried to reach out to the President and the Dean, who were not helpful at all and just directed my email back down to student services where I received some run around again.Business Response

I would like to file a complaint regarding being charged additional funding for a meal plan for my daughter who is a student at Morgan State University in Baltimore Maryland. This fall semester the university experienced excessive enrollment and many students were placed in a local hotel as a supplement to campus housing. Most of my daughter's school costs are being paid for by parent plus loans, to which we have to pay back. There was no choice of housing due to the over enrollment and as a result we are forced to pay more than 5600 for dorm fees. Then we go to set up the meal plan, which was very confusing, we ended up choosing the 750plan after cancelling other plans. Then I notice that there is an additional $1000 mean plan charge. I attempted to change the plan but was unsuccessful. Then over the Labor Day holiday weekend, a email was sent out stating that students who reside in the Lord Baltimore Hotel must have the 1000 plan (this could have been stated at the time the students moved and or prior too, so as to alleviate the confusion) and that all meal plan changes were to be done by 9-2-22, which was a Holiday and I didn't notice the email until the day after the Holiday, but several requests had already been submitted. At this time the additional charge has remained on my account, and I have now been charged for two meal plans and per school policy the additional funds on the meal account just go away in the next semester and are not extended. I have reached out to many staff members at the university regarding the additional charge but have still not gotten the issue resolved. If this has happened to me, how many others are experiencing this. I would like to be refund the $700 that I was charged for the 750-meal plan.Business Response
