I hired a contractor to complete construction services. He grossly misrepresented his ************************** skills. -Foul language and mistakes were present at day 1 of construction. -the framing didn't match the construction document submitted to the ************ of the house -dangerous demolished wood with nails were left in a pile on my front lawn for 3 days.-the windows were installed in different places along the elevation, different than what was approved & drawn by architect.-all windows were installed at different heights above the finished floor. They did not level anything. Rushed windows in and damaged one that needed to be reordered.-door installed 5" lower than top of windows. -accused me of buying the wrong windows because he couldn't tell the difference between replacement windows and new windows. I bought the right windows.-no knowledge of building codes and insisted tempered glass was not required. Even after I researched it and showed the contractor the codes.-no building code ceiling knowledge. He said the entire porch would need to be torn down after several days, IF I wanted to move ahead with the increased height. I also verified this with the town, and they said that is not true. My ceiling work was never resolved with MDB. -All exterior trim was at different heights, widths, angles and filled with gaps due to sloppy cuts.-All trim was mounted on top of clapboards and incorrectly installed creating water issues.-Contractors employees were smoking pot on site while working. They unfortunately were not expecting us to walk up to the house.-Contractor would not reimburse the appropriate amount of $ after only 4 working days. He essentially stole money for work that was not completed and work that was all wrong. Even after acknowledging that the windows were not it right.-The project was an enclosed porch. The job was framing & windows.-Everything needed to be torn down and started from scratch with a new contractor.-terrible!

    Business Response

    Date: 04/25/2025

Thank you for the opportunity to respond to this complaint. We understand how important ones home and investment are, and we regret that her experience with our company led to disappointment.

From the beginning of the project, our team made every effort to communicate clearly, document progress, and respond to concerns in a timely and professional manner. Dozens of text messages were exchanged throughout the course of the jobincluding several in which the customer expressed satisfaction with the work. These communications demonstrate our consistent efforts to address feedback, clarify project details, and make requested adjustments.

Importantly, there were no negative comments or concerns expressed to us throughout the duration of the project until the day the customer informed us that she no longer wanted us to continue. Up to that point, communication remained positive and collaborative, which makes the nature of the complaint especially surprising and disappointing.

We would like to address several specific claims raised:

    Framing and Code Compliance:
Framing was completed in accordance with the architectural plans provided. All required inspections by the town were passed, and our knowledge of applicable building codes is sound. When the client raised code-related questions, we took them seriously and followed up appropriately. Both the project manager and the company owner hold Unrestricted Construction Supervisor Licenses issued by the *****************************, certifying our qualifications to oversee and manage all phases of residential and commercial construction. We take code compliance seriously and always carry our building code books with us to ensure our work consistently meets or exceeds regulatory standards.

    Window Issues:
The customer chose to order and supply the windows herself, despite our recommendation to manage the procurement to ensure consistency and proper sizing. Some of the challengessuch as placement disputes and fit discrepanciesstemmed from that decision. Nevertheless, we did our best to accommodate the materials provided. We have documented communication in which the homeowner expressed satisfaction with the windows during the course of the project.

    Trim and Finish Work:
The trim work mentioned in the complaint was still in progress at the time the customer asked us to stop work, and unfortunately, we were not given the opportunity to complete or correct it. In good faith, we offered multiple solutions to address her concernsincluding redoing the trim to her specifications, adjusting the door height, and even assigning a different worker to continue the finish work. All of these offers were declined. It became clear that the customer was no longer interested in resolving the issues through corrective work and was solely seeking a refund. We were actively working through the punch list and addressing quality concerns as part of our standard project closeout process when the relationship was terminated.

    Project Scope, Changes, and Conduct:
Its also important to note that multiple changes were requested mid-project that were not part of the original approved scope of work. While we always aim to be flexible and responsive to client needs, these requests created complications, added time, and increased costs. In several instances, the client attempted to have our team complete additional tasks that were outside the agreed-upon contract without compensation. She also required our crew to make multiple trips when she was not home and instructed them not to complete work in her absenceeven though we had coordinated schedules in advance. Additionally, the clients conduct toward some of our workers became difficult, creating further strain on the job environment and affecting progress.

    Safety and Professional Conduct:
The allegation that a member of our crew was using marijuana on-site is entirely false and damaging. We maintain a strict zero-tolerance policy regarding substance use, and we take the safety, professionalism, and conduct of our team very seriously.

    Permit and Cost Transparency:
The cost of the building permit was $680, not $50 as claimed. The permit was properly obtained and is fully documented.

    Refund and Dispute Resolution:
In good faith, we issued a substantial refund and entered into a mutually signed agreement outlining the terms of resolution and separation. We are prepared to provide documentation to confirm this, including a copy of the certified bank check issued to the customer. Unfortunately, the customer has not upheld the terms of that agreement, which was intended to bring the matter to a close. Despite this good-faith resolution, she has continued to pursue additional claims, which suggests the issue is no longer about the work itself but may be rooted in broader personal dissatisfaction beyond the scope of our contract.

While we respectfully disagree with many of the claims in the complaint, we remain open to resolving disputes in a fair, professional, and fact-based manner. This situation is not representative of the experiences of our many satisfied clients.

We are proud of the integrity of our work and the relationships we have built with our customers. We remain committed to transparency, accountability, and high-quality craftsmanship in every project.

Documentation supporting our responseincluding communications, inspection approvals, and the signed refund agreementis available upon request.
