On 5/27/2024, I made a purchase at Aborn True Value Hardware totaling over $80 at 1 :30 PM. I went to return a significant portion of the goods purchased at 3:00 PM on the same day, completely unopened or used, only to find the store closed despite signage indicating that the store was to close at 6:00 PM. I returned on 5/28/2024 to make the return. The owner of the store was assisting me. I told him I did not have a receipt for my purchase, but had the card used to make the purchase. He said "Oh, that would be too easy for you," and indicated that his business is deliberately designed to make returns and refunds difficult for consumers. The return policy is not posted in the store and is not posted on the website. Based on Yelp reviews of the business, this appears to be a common theme.

    Business Response

    Date: 06/11/2024

The Aborn TrueValue team would like to apologize for any inconvenience we have caused. The date of May 27th was Memorial Day, and our store closes in the afternoon so our staff can go home early to observe this holiday. We are sorry that this was not made clear by our signage. As for our return policy, we require all customers to present proof of purchase in the form of a receipt issued by the store. This policy is in place to protect against fraudulent returns, and is clearly posted on the front of the counter. We are very sorry
