We hired Value Floors and Cabinets to take out tile flooring and install hardwood to match existing hardwood in adjacent rooms. They mistakenly installed red oak instead of the white oak that we had on the existing floors. We did not realize this as we trusted them to make the right selection, order and deliver it as they claim to be experts in business for 47 years. This was not caught until the stainer/subcontractor came and sanded the existing floors and pointed out the difference which was noticeable as the new floors had a pink hue. At this point, we were in the process of vacating the premises during the staining process due to the health hazards. Value Floors did not provide support at all with staining process. The subtractor quickly showed a stain sample of a couple of options on small squares with both floorings next to each other. I raised this to the Value Floors by phone and said I was very unhappy they put the wrong floors in. *** assured me that the stain will blend it. On this tiny square sample, the darker stain appeared to blend the two floors where they met, so we said proceed given the company assured repeatedly that once stained the floors would match. Fast forward post install and full staining, the 2 different floors meeting in the middle of a room have a clear grain pattern/color difference. Value Floors refused to take accountability for their mistake and said that red and white oak are not any different. This is false and just light research reveals this is a common mistake. They did sloppy work, did not send anyone out to check on their work. Had they sent someone out to guide outcome may have been better. Instead they gaslighted homeowner saying the difference didn't exist , for them to lift a finger we would have to take it upon ourselves to come to their store subjecting ourselves to their abuse. They assured us when we hired them they would match the floors and we inquired repeatedly about this through the installation process.

      Complaint: 17259869

I am rejecting this response because:

The issue is the faulty materials they installed,  not the stain color selected. The also subcontracted part of the job and have not provided lein waiver and contractor sworn statement which have communicated to them are both required for final payment and by ** law.

      Sincerely,

I am rejecting this response because:

Value Floors appears to be deliberately and continually obtuse.

The issue is not the chosen stain color. The issue is their misleading business practices in which they stated they would install new wood to match our existing wood and they did not. They installed a different species of wood than our existing floors and were deceptive and careless about it. They also subcontracted the staining and continue to not provide the contractors sworn statement and lein waiver per IL law though has been requested and is required. They continue to mention a balance however BBB should also examine their payment requests and percentages as are unseemly for a reputable and professional business who has neglected to provide required paperwork.

      Sincerely,
