      My brother and I visited the Richmond location around 12:30pm on June 6, 2024. My brother is the executive administrator of my deceased moms estate. We had a letter from our lawyer (*******************) and an official document from the Supreme Court providing proof. At first, the clerk (******************) refused us access saying the rental storage unit was under the name *** and they would need a letter written by her to alow entry. I pressed him to call his supervisor. He called the owner (****************) who then revealed that our deceased mother was indeed on the list for approved access. Since my brother is now in control of her estate that meant him. So we were all in agreement (**************************** and us) that we were legally entitled to the units contents.However, since *** has not produced a key, ****** claimed that while we indeed had legal right to its belongings, they could not cut the lock because that was Evas property. Moreover, he claimed that *** had to present if they did cut it.We are not in contact with ***. Moreover I explained we are not friends with *** and that she had caused our family extreme duress in the way she handled my moms care (she assumed power of attorney). We are in the process of building a legal case to seek damages. So its quite unlikely we can get her to cooperate.The fact that the staff on hand admitted we had legal right to access its contents but no legal right to the lock itself seems spiteful and unreasonable. Even our lawyers who had been practicing nearly 30y, said hes never experienced anything like this.Moreover, this has been a very hard to for me and my brother as you can imagine. We werent random people off the street; we are all that survives of her.As resolution, Id like to speak with someone of senior authority in the company. Id also like them to speak with the owner and staff at the Richmond location so no one else has to deal with such an incident. An apology would be appreciated but not required. Thank you.

      I am rejecting this response because:

      I spoke with the business manager and she explained they would honour their contract with the storage units renter instead of honouring my brother and Is legal right to its contents. After speaking with them, I sought legal counsel from **** *********************** Lithwick LLP and they assured me that the contract between a renter and a storage facility would not hold up in court, and that my brother and I do have every legal claim to the contents of the unit and should have be allowed entry the moment we produced the necessary documents.

      Its a shame Advanced Storage did not actually run this case by any kind of lawyer nor do they seem to have any legal counsel to speak of to advise them on such matters. With that said, my brother and I have secured legal representation and will take this matter before the courts to seek resolution and compensation. I want to thank the BBB for their support and attention on the matter. 

      This case can be closed as I have exhausted all avenues to resolve this matter without legal action.
